Villarreal to Win

Reason for tip

Villarreal have won three of their five home matches this season, while they have had the benefit of a Copa del Rey game to ease themselves back into competitive action, beating Guijuelo 2-1 after extra time. Valencia meanwhile have picked up only one victory in half a dozen away fixtures, while their last six La Liga outings have yielded merely one win

Villarreal 1-0

Reason for tip

Villarreal have kept three clean sheets in their nine home matches this season, while scoring exactly once in their last two competitive fixtures (after 90 minutes). Valencia meanwhile keep games tight, conceding exactly once in their last three away matches, but also failing to score in a recent 1-0 defeat at home to Barcelona

Villarreal vs Valencia Predictions

  • Villarreal have won three of their five home matches
  • Valencia headed into the international break on a run of just one victory in six La Liga outings
  • Valencia have lost two of their six away fixtures, winning just once

Can Villarreal kick-on?

It’s been a frustrating season for Villarreal, who have not found the consistency their fans demand, but they have been pretty strong at La Ceramica, winning three of their five home matches and losing just once.

They are of course still adjusting to life post Unai Emery, but Quique Setién guided his side to one defeat from seven fixtures before the international break.

The Yellow Submarine will hope they’ve found some form during the World Cup too, as they picked up friendly victories against Aston Villa, Napoli and Galatasaray.

Valencia still under-performing

Valencia are another side who haven’t quite hit peak form yet, as evidenced by losing two of their half a dozen away matches, picking up just one win in the process.

They did beat Real Betis 3-0 before the international break, but that ended a run of five La Liga fixtures without a victory.

Goals have been a problem too, netting just seven on the road, compared to 15 at home.

I predict that Villarreal will win this game, with 1-0 my correct score prediction.
