Western Sydney Wanderers were relying on some slip ups when they went into the final game of the Hyundai A-League regular season, but only one of the two slip ups they required came in. Brisbane Roar failed to beat Melbourne Victory and relinquished their top spot in the final game of the season, allowing Western Sydney Wanderers and Adelaide United to leapfrog them.

This saw Western Sydney Wanderers finish the season in 2nd position, just one point adrift of the Premiership winners Adelaide United. It did at least give them a by into the semi finals of the playoffs, a courtesy which Brisbane Roar were not afforded.

After their slip up against Melbourne Victory the ex-leaders of the pack had to play against none other than Melbourne Victory in their first playoff game. It took a while for the game to take off, but in the 86th minute Melbourne Victory took the lead, only to be left heartbroken after a quickfire double from the hosts saw Victory relinquish the playoff crown that they won last season.

This was Brisbane Roar’s 5th win in their last seven matches, with only one of them ending in defeat. Western Sydney Wanderers have a slightly poorer record, with four wins, two defeats, and one draw making up their last seven results.

It’s no better at home for Western Sydney either, with only three of their last seven home games ending in victory. However, Brisbane Roar have only won one of their last seven on the road.

One thing neither of these teams have had any shortage of is goals in their matches. Both Western Sydney Wanderers and Brisbane Roar have seen at least three goals scored in five of their last six outings at home and away respectively.

This makes odds of 4/6 for Over 2.5 Goals a valuable backing, and I’m going for that alongside a 2-1 win for Western Sydney Wanderers at 15/2.
