Wolverhampton vs Brentford Predictions
- Wolves have conceded in all 16 league games this term
- Brentford have managed only two clean sheets in the league
- The visitors have conceded in their last eight matches, while they’ve conceded two goals per game on the road
Tough timing for Wolves
Wolves have plenty of positives to take from their performance last weekend, which was their strongest of the season so far. However, it wasn’t ideal timing, as they got their act together in a visit to league leaders Arsenal.
Two Wolves own-goals undid their good work, which saw their losing streak hit double-figures. The noise around Wolves’ move for manager Rob Edwards was that his EFL track record was a positive if they went down. His Championship pedigree is becoming more important to his Molineux future with every passing week.
Wolves are now rooted to the bottom of the table, 14 points from safety. With visits to Anfield and Old Trafford to close out the year, Saturday’s clash with Brentford is massive for the club’s slim survival hopes.
Brentford have defensive issues
While Wolves haven’t won a league game all season, this isn’t a sure thing for visitors Brentford. The Bees were outplayed by Leeds in a 1-1 home draw last weekend, while Keith Andrews’ side have lost seven of their first eight games on the road.
Brentford have conceded at least twice in each of those defeats, shipping 16 goals across eight away games. They’ve managed only two clean sheets in 16 league matches, shipping 1.56 goals per game on average.
The Bees are without a clean sheet in eight games in all competitions, with their last shutout coming at the expense of Grimsby.
Back goals with Wolves showing fight
While Wolves were improved last weekend, they gave up 4.0 xG in their last outing at Molineux – a 4-1 defeat to Manchester United. Scoring in back-to-back games is a sign of improvement for the hosts under Edwards, and Brentford’s defensive record suggests that run can continue.
The hosts have put up a fight at home against Everton, Brighton, and Burnley. They have to target this game, especially given their difficult finish to 2025. The Bees head into this trip with one win in six and having lost five straight away games. Backing against both defences appeals, while this looks like a perfect opportunity for Wolves to get their first point under their new boss.
