Tip Reasoning

  • Watford have lost each of their last four
  • Wolves are unbeaten in their last six games played on Boxing Day
  • Watford have lost seven of nine against top 10 sides, including all three away trips
  • Wolves are unbeaten against the bottom eight so far (W5 D2)

Tough return for Watford

Just as a difficult run of games ended for Watford, they saw two fixtures postponed. The Hornets return to action after a 16-day gap following their loss to Brentford with a visit to Wolves, the first of a run of clashes with top-half sides.

The visitors head to Molineux before hosting West Ham and Tottenham, while they follow that with an FA Cup clash against Leicester. That’s a tough run for Claudio Ranieri’s men, especially following a run of four straight defeats.

Wonderful time of year for Wolves

Boxing Day football is a staple for every English side, but few have enjoyed it quite as much as Wolves fans over recent years. They are unbeaten in their last six league games on Boxing Day (W4 D2).

This is a good opportunity for Wolves to carry on that new tradition, as Watford are winless in their last eight away league games played on Boxing Day, a run dating back to the early 90s.

Another blow for Hornets

Watford have lost 11 of 16 games this season, while they’ve been in awful form against better sides. They’ve lost seven of nine clashes with teams in the top 10, including all three of their away games against those sides.

The Hornets have lost six of eight trips this term and they meet a Wolves side who prey on struggling opponents. The hosts are unbeaten against the bottom eight, winning five of those seven matches.

Back Wolves to continue that run given they’re well priced to see off a Watford outfit who are on a losing streak. The visitors have suffered three 1-0 defeats on the road this term and none of Wolves’ last seven Premier League games has seen more than one goal, so a 1-0 home win is my correct score prediction.
