Cagliari vs Udinese Predictions

  • Cagliari have won just one league game all season, and are winless in nine in Serie A.
  • Udinese have held Milan and thrashed Crotone in their first two games under new management.
  • The hosts could be without their star midfielder Nahitan Nandez again, while boss Walter Mazzarri is coming under intense pressure.

Encouraging signs under Udinese’s interim boss

Interim Udinese boss Gabriele Cioffi has seen his side hold AC Milan and hammer four goals past Serie B team Crotone in his two games in the dugout, and Saturday’s trip to Sardinia, where they will meet lowly Cagliari, represents a superb chance for him to further his claim for the hotseat.

The Zebrette should have claimed a memorable win over Milan last weekend, and were able to shuffle their pack for the Coppa Italia hammering of Crotone. Host Cagliari also made changes for a win over second tier opponents, beating Cittadella 3-1, but have gone nine without a win in Serie A.

The Sardinians’ lone win this term came against Sampdoria, and boss Walter Mazzarri could come under intolerable pressure if they don’t claim further victories before the winter break. Star midfielder Nahitan Nandez has added to their troubles by missing two games through injury, and the Sardinian’s last league outing saw them manage just 24% possession and 2 shots on goal at Inter, leaving Mazzarri seething.

Good opportunity for visitors, but beware the draw

While Udinese will see this match as a good opportunity for them to put to bed any fears that they could be dragged into a basement battle (they are seven points clear of trouble going into the weekend), punters should be cautious when backing them.

Cagliari managed four successive draws before their hammering at Inter, and the Zebrette have themselves drawn three of their last four league matches. As a result, backing the visitors on the draw no bet market could be more prudent, while a narrow 2-1 away win, after both teams scored in Udinese’s last three league games, could be a solid correct score prediction.
