      Cardiff vs Liverpool Predictions

While eyes around the country were trained on the midweek Champions League action this week, Cardiff were making the trip to the Amex Stadium to give themselves a glimmer of hope in the Premier League relegation battle. They beat the struggling Seagulls 2-0 in Brighton, taking them to within two points of safety with four games left to play.

Brighton above them still have a game in hand, and with two of Cardiff’s remaining matches being against Liverpool and Manchester United the odds are still firmly stacked against them. However, it was an excellent performance from the Bluebirds and just the fact that they are still fighting with everything they have will be enough for the fans.

Unfortunately for them, everything they have is often not enough. Cardiff have lost six of their last eight league games, and even at home they have lost three of their last six. Getting anything from this hosting of Liverpool will be incredibly tough, but as they showed in their unfortunate 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea at the end of March, they will still put up a solid fight.

Liverpool cruised through their Champions League quarter final on Tuesday night, and now their attentions turn back towards a gruelling Premier League title race. They sit at the summit of the table right now, but they are only two points ahead of Manchester City and the defending champions still have a game in hand.

Jurgen Klopp’s side took three points from Chelsea last weekend at Anfield, but even though they have won their last five league games it’s not all been promising for the club. Away from home especially they have looked a bit off the pace recently.

For instance, they required a late double to beat Southampton in their last league away day, and an 81st minute penalty was needed at Fulham last month. They have only won two of their last five league away games too, so it’s been far from plain sailing for Liverpool recently.

We’re expecting a tighter match than many on Sunday, especially with Cardiff having so much left to play for. Liverpool should still edge it, but they have only won by more than two goals in two of their 17 Premier League away days this season and they have only won by more than a single clear goal in one of their last seven away matches.

Cardiff have lost by more than a two goal margin in five of their 17 home matches this season, and given Liverpool’s recent away form we think a Cardiff +2.0 Asian Handicap win is the best bet on Sunday along with a 2-1 win for the visitors.
