Carlisle vs Bury Predictions

With the season now well and truly in the final stages of the campaign, time is quickly running out for sides to prove that they are worthy of playing their football at a higher level. This weekend sees two sides who are hoping for exactly that, but with neither Carlisle United or Bury at the peak of their powers at the moment, it promises to be a key clash at Brunton Park.

Shortly after the new year had been ushered in, everything was looking rosy in Cumbria as they were one of the form teams in the country and looked destined to either win a spot in the end of season play-offs, or potentially go even better than that. However, things have taken a turn for the worse of late and following last weeks heavy 3-0 defeat at the hands of in-form Tranmere Rovers, they go into this match having claimed just one win in their previous 10 matches. A major reason for their poor run has been their inability to keep the opposition at bay, and those same 10 matches has seen them concede 19 times.

Making the trip to Brunton Park is a Bury side who are not exactly in the best of form themselves at the moment. Despite being seen as one of only a handful of sides who may be able to prevent Lincoln City claiming the title, a challenge which is probably out of their reach now, the visitors have won just one of their previous five outings and now find themselves clinging on to the last of the automatic promotion places with just two points separating them from Mansfield Town in fourth.

Although they might not be showing it at the moment, Bury are the top scorers in the division and have not been shy about putting the ball in the back of the net when on opposition soil. When you consider the poor defensive form shown by both sides of late, it is hard to imagine a situation which sees a low scoring game. With this in mind, we think that backing there to be over 2.5 goals scored represents the best chance of a decent return.
