Chelsea vs Newcastle Predictions
- Chelsea have won just one of their last four home games in all competitions.
- The Magpies have won five of their last six on the road.
- Newcastle’s last win at Stamford Bridge came back in 2012.
Magpies can end Stamford Bridge hoodoo
Chelsea have had a poor season by their standards and it may get worse before it gets better when they host Newcastle on Monday night, with the Magpies looking to stay in touch with European spots.
Eddie Howe’s men are currently eighth in the table, four points behind sixth placed Manchester United, and go into this encounter on the back of just one defeat across their last eight in all competitions.
That defeat came in their last trip down to London, with the Magpies outplayed by title-chasing Arsenal in a 4-1 loss, but they could have an easier time of it at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea’s home hardly a fortress in the league this season.
Goals have not been the issue for Chelsea at home in recent weeks, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men scoring in 1o of their last 12 home appearances in all competitions. However, results have been harder to come by. The Blues have won just five of their 12 home games in the league this season and, while Newcastle’s last victory here was over 11 years ago, Eddie Howe should be confident that his Europe chasing side can claim all three points.
Gordon looks good for a goal
Newcastle’s squad has been bolstered in recent weeks with multiple first team forwards returning from injury, with the likes of Harvey Barnes and Alexander Isak both looking sharp after returning to the fray.
One man that avoided a long injury lay-off – and looks an ever-increasing goal threat because of it- is winger Anthony Gordon, who has grabbed 14 goal contributions in the league so far, including nine goals.
Two of these have come across his last three league appearances, and he could find the net again on Monday night in what looks to be a tight affair. Chelsea last failed to score at home in the league in a 2-0 defeat to Brentford in October and so a 2-1 victory for the Magpies draws the most appeal.
