Dundee United vs Inverness CT Predictions

Dundee United will host Inverness CT on Friday at Tannadice Park as the sides both aim to make it through to the final tie in the play-off to reach the Scottish Premiership. Who will make it?

Inverness CT faced Ayr United in the first round of play-offs, as the first leg saw John Robertson’s side cruise to an easy 3-1 away from home at Somerset Park, thanks to goals from Charlie Trafford and a Jordan White double. The 2nd leg of the tie saw Ayr United score early on in the first half, but Thistle were able to bring things level with 10 minutes to go, thus securing their place in the final tie against Dundee United.

The Terrors were unlucky not to win the league, as they missed out on doing so by a few games and seemingly giving way to a title race in the final weeks of the season, but Ross County were the eventual winners. Unlike Inverness, United didn’t have to play an initial tie for promotion, meaning that Robbie Neilson’s side does have the advantage of not having played as many games.

Tuesday’s first-leg clash ended 1-0 for visitors Dundee United, in a game that was heavily contested. The initial 45 minutes ended goalless and rather uneventful, with the exception of missed chances from the visitors. Inverness received a huge blow early on in the 2nd half after Liam Polworth was sent off for raising his foot too high and almost caused some serious damage to United’s Mark Connolly.

Paul McMullan was Dundee United’s hero, as the midfielder opened the scoreline in the 78th minute after managing to slot a shot into the bottom corner of the Inverness goal after an initial strike from his teammate Clark struck the post.

Dundee United will go into this second-leg with a 1 goal advantage, but the tie is very much alive for both sides. The fact that the away goal doesn’t have the same effect as it does in European competitions means that neither side has a real advantage, but it’ll be a tough game for both teams regardless. Dundee United have been the better side all year and were close to winning the league, but Inverness CT have also finished the season off strongly, as they seem to have grown stronger every week. It’s a tough game to predict, but we’re going to back the hosts to win here and for both teams to score  with a final score of 2-1.
