MK Dons vs Carlisle Predictions

It has already been a seasons with plenty of twists and turns at the top of League Two, but with Exeter’s title challenge over for the time being, it seems like it is left for Lincoln City and MK Dons to battle it out for top spot between now and the end of the campaign. This weekend the MK Dons have the opportunity to take a step closer to their goal of winning promotion back to League One at the first attempt as they welcome Carlisle United to Stadium mk.

MK Dons currently sit atop the League Two table by just two points but they go into this match knowing they need earn all three points as they have now lost three of their last five matches in all competitions. From a league perspective at least, the Dons are fortunate that two of those defeats have come in cup competitions as they fell to Grimsby Town and Brighton’s Under 21 side in the FA Cup and Checkatrade Trophy respectively. Despite having the best defensive unit in League Two so far this term, there will also be concerns over the fact that they conceded three goals in each of those three defeats.

Carlisle United’s strong start to the season seems a distant memory and they face the league leaders on the back of three winless games. United will need to improve on their recent outings if they are to make a challenge for the end of season play-offs and they go into this match having claimed just eight points from their previous eight League Two games. They will take confidence in their form away from home which has seen them score an impressive 17 points in their 10 matches on the road so far this season.

Although the hosts are the heavy favourites in this clash, their blip in form suggests to us that they are not worth the risk on the win-draw-win market. That is not to say we do not think that they will win, however, but if they are to do so then they will likely have to score twice as their visitors have been excellent on the road. With this in mind, we think that backing there to be over 2.5 goals scored represents the best opportunity of a decent return.
