Tough to justify backing struggling Napoli

Having won Serie A by a margin of 16 points last season, Napoli have come crashing down this term and are locked in mid-table obscurity heading into their match with Verona.

The club from Naples lack the fear factor they had in Italy last term and they go into Sunday’s clash having drawn blanks in each of their last two matches against Inter Milan and Lazio.

In their last eight matches, Napoli have scored only five goals and three of them came in the Italian Super Cup semi-final with Fiorentina.

The absence of star forward Victor Osimhen, who is still at the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria, does not help their cause, and it is hard to justify backing them against Verona.

Goals could be at a premium in Naples

The visitors are hovering above the drop zone but should fancy their chances of flustering out-of-form Napoli and a bet on under 2.5 goals could be the way to go.

Five of Verona’s last eight games have featured under 2.5 goals and the other three all finished 2-1, so were hardly high-scoring thrillers.

Marco Baroni’s men do not score many goals – they have scored only 12 in Serie A this season – and they are often reliant on their defence for points.

And with Napoli’s forward line misfiring of late, the draw could be likely with 1-1 a worthwhile bet in the correct score market.
