Newcastle Over 2.5 Team Goals

Reason for tip

Newcastle have been in fantastic scoring form in recent weeks and the hosts have found the net 10 times across their last two games. The Magpies have won seven of their last eight matches and put four goals past Southampton in their last meeting, so back them to put the Saints to the sword.

Newcastle 4-1

Reason for tip

Newcastle won 4-1 at Southampton in the reverse meeting and they have hit 10 goals across their last two matches. The hosts have conceded in each of their last five games and the Saints look good for a consultation goal despite their eight-game winless run.

Newcastle vs Southampton Predictions

  • Southampton have lost five of their last six games
  • The Saints have conceded 16 goals across their last seven
  • Newcastle have scored 10 goals in their two games over the last seven days
  • Joelinton has scored four goals across his last five matches

Home form can take Newcastle into Europe

Newcastle have scored 10 goals in the past seven days, delivering huge wins over Everton and Tottenham. As they prepare to host the Premier League’s bottom side, a top-four finish is getting ever closer for the Magpies.

Newcastle have just six games left to play and they have an eight-point lead over fifth-placed Spurs who have played a game more. As Eddie Howe’s side look to get over the line and secure a return to Europe’s top table, the Magpies will be boosted by the fact that four of their final six games are at home.

Sinking Saints could be blown away

Southampton haven’t picked up a win in their last eight games, losing four of their last five as their survival chances look all but over. They’re six points from safety and rooted to the bottom of the table, a position which is set to get worse given the tough task ahead of them.

The Saints have troubled Arsenal, completed a double over Chelsea and effectively ended Antonio Conte’s time at Tottenham, but they’ve also suffered plenty of heavy defeats. They’ve shipped three goals at each of the top two, while they were beaten 4-1 by Newcastle at St Mary’s.

The visitors have shipped 16 goals across their last seven matches and they’re visiting one of the league’s form sides, so this could get ugly.

Newcastle’s winning run to continue

The Magpies have won seven of their last eight games, while they’ve found the net 23 times across their last eight. Howe is able to switch Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak in and out of his starting line-up and Newcastle remain clinical, with the supporting cast chipping in with goals.

Even Joelinton is showing why the club paid so much for him to be their centre-forward, having struck in each of their wins this week. The Brazilian has scored four goals across his last five games thanks to playing further up the pitch, so he’s a good anytime scorer option.

Given Newcastle’s scoring form they’re great value to score three or more on Sunday, having already won all their meetings with the bottom four. The hosts are coming into this one on a high and know that some more high-scoring home wins can see them into Europe, so back the Magpies to cruise to another 4-1 win.
