Real on the ropes

Real Madrid’s season is at risk of unravelling after they lost 2-1 at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday and now face a quick turnaround to take on Girona in La Liga.

Los Blancos are in serious danger of going trophyless this season, they are currently seven points adrift of rivals Barcelona after losing to Mallorca in their last league game and they face an uphill battle in the Champions League after their loss to Bayern.

They face a Girona side who are entrenched in midtable after an unspectacular season in which they have won just nine games. Two of those victories have come in their last three games however and if there is any ideal time to play Real Madrid, it is between two legs of a blockbuster European quarter-final. 

Los Blancos may still be too strong

Both teams have scored in Real’s last five games and a repeat of that is fancied when they host this Girona side, who held them to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture.

Nevertheless, the home team have won 13 of their 15 games at the Bernabeu in La Liga this season and should come out on top.
