St Johnstone vs Hamilton Predictions

Hamilton travels to Perth this weekend where they’ll be hosted by bottom-placed St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park. Can the hosts finally pick up 3 points?

St Johnstone suffered a fresh defeat last week at the hands of St Mirren after picking up a point against Ross County before the international break. The Saints continue without a win in the Premiership and sit bottom of the table with a mere 4 points.

Tommy Wright’s side has put in their worst performances at home, picking up at McDiarmid Park just 1 point of the 4 they have won so far. That draw was on the opening day of the season and the club has since lost all of their following 3 home ties, conceding 6 times and failing to score once. Moreover, the Saints have conceded a further 16 goals in the league and scoring just 7.

Hamilton is so far doing much better than last year, but the South Lanarkshire side still has a long way to go to reach salvation. The Accies are winless in their last 2 games, picking up 4 points in their last 3 matches.

The Accies haven’t done too well away from home either, with Brian Rice’s side conceding an average of 2.5 goals thanks to heavy defeats to Rangers last week or Ross County on the opening day of the season, as well as a 2-2 draw with Hearts. Hamilton has also failed to keep a clean sheet in 72% of their overall games.

St Johnstone needs to go all in to try and win their first game of the Premiership season but doing so could expose them at the back and give Hamilton a chance to cause damage to the Saints’ defence. However, the Accies are weak in attack and score a measly 0.5 goals away from home and fail to do so in 75% of those away matches, so it’s hard to see how they can score at McDiarmid Park.

Despite that, St Johnstone does concede an average of 2 goals at home and have so far failed to keep a clean sheet and only score in 25% of home games. Taking all this into to account, we feel like a goalless draw is on the cards here, as neither side is sufficiently capable of scoring many goals.
