Watford vs Arsenal Predictions

  • Arsenal have won four of five clashes with the bottom three this term
  • The visitors have taken 22 points from the last 27 available
  • Watford have lost 12 of 14 meetings with the sides in the top-half
  • The Gunners have won their last three games by a single goal

Gunners hoping to make a statement

With the two sides directly above them facing off against the top two this weekend, Arsenal have a chance to boost their Champions League ambitions. The Gunners are away to second-bottom Watford, a clash which is a must-win for Mikel Arteta’s in-form side.

The Gunners can’t afford to drop points to the relegation threatened sides with a chance at a Champions League return unfolding before them. Luckily, Arsenal have got a solid record against the strugglers this term and they’ll be out to maintain it on Sunday.

Arsenal out to dispatch strugglers

Arteta’s side have taken 13 points from a possible 15 against the bottom three so far, winning both of their away trips. The Gunners have actually become a consistent side against the league’s weaker teams, with five of their seven defeats this term coming against the top four.

Outside of that their record this term is 14 wins from 19, with their recent form helping to boost that return. Arsenal have taken 22 points from the last 27 available to them in the Premier League (W7 D1 L1). On top of that, they’ve won 12 of their last 15 league clashes with the Hornets.

Watford to be outgunned

While Roy Hodgson brings bags of experience to Watford, he has only managed one win from his 12 home league meetings with Arsenal. The former Fulham boss has helped the Hornets to become a more solid side, but their lack of goals is a concern against an Arsenal team who look full of confidence.

Arsenal have scored the first goal in 14 of their 15 Premier League meetings with Watford, so I can’t see Hodgson’s side grinding out a 0-0 in this one. On top of that, this historically isn’t the point in the season when the hosts get their act together, as Watford have won just three of their 20 Premier League games played in March (D3 L14).

I’m backing Arsenal to take the points this weekend, with Watford losing 12 of 14 clashes with sides in the top half. The Gunners are on a three game winning run with each of those coming by a single goal, so back a 2-1 away win.

Watford predicted lineup: Foster; Ngakia, Cathcart, Samir, Kamara; Sissoko, Louza, Cleverley; Sarr, Dennis, King

Arsenal predicted lineup: Ramsdale; Soares, White, Gabriel, Tierney; Partey, Xhaka; Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli; Lacazette
