Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory Predictions
Adelaide United, who clinched the Hyundai A-League double last season with an excellent performance, remain cemented to the bottom of the table following their abject 0-0 draw with Wellington Phoenix on Sunday. This takes their points tally to a measly seven from their 13 games, leaving them three points off 9th placed Central Coast Mariners, seven points off the A-League playoffs, and a huge 26 points adrift of the leaders.
That draw made it four games without a win for them, and that 2-0 win at home to Wellington Phoenix is their only win of the season so far. They have lost eight of their 13 league matches, including four of their six games at Coopers Stadium.
Melbourne Victory, who were dethroned by Adelaide United last season, have rediscovered their form this term and are on the hunt for silverware again. Their 4-2 thrashing of Newcastle Jets on Monday made it six wins and one draw from their last seven matches.
They are now seven points adrift of Sydney FC at the top of the table, but they do have a game in hand on the leaders and could find themselves the only challengers for the title if Brisbane Roar continue to drop points.
Away from home there hasn’t been a huge dip in performance. They have won three, drawn one, and lost one of their league trips away this season, and whilst they haven’t been dealing out thrashings with great regularity on the road, they can still be very pleased with their performance.
Much of their attacking play this season has been finished off by Besart Berisha and Marco Rojas. The two have ten league goals each in just 21 combined performances, but it’s Berisha stealing the show on their travels. The 31 year old has bagged half of his league goals in his five away appearances, so he looks a fantastic choice for our goalscorer predictions at 20/21 to score anytime.
His chances will be increased by the fact that Adelaide United have conceded 11 goals in their six home games this season, with at least two goals being conceded in four of them. Melbourne Victory have notched at least two in three of their five away days.
The visitors definitely have the advantage coming into this one, and considering Adelaide United have already lost 2-1 at home to Melbourne Victory this season, I think odds of 11/10 for an away win is the way to go here too. I’m going for a repeat of the 2-1 scoreline for my correct score predictions too, with that coming in at 15/2.
