Anderlecht vs Shakhtar Donetsk Betting Tips & Predictions

An efficient performance from Shakhtar Donetsk saw them build a promising looking 3-1 lead in the first leg. Both teams were fairly even when it came to possession and attacking play, but the Ukrainians’ clinical nature saw them put three of their four shots on target in the back of the net.

This puts a lot of pressure on Anderlecht in the second leg, with them needing a two goal victory over an in form side to progress. The Belgians did manage to win 3-0 at the weekend though to end their three match winless streak in all competitions.

This leaves them in 3rd position in the Belgian Pro League with nine points between them and top of the table Gent, so they will really want to keep their cup run going for as long as possible.

Shakhtar Donetsk are only three points adrift of the Ukrainian Premier League top spot, held by Dynamo Kiev, but they did see their five match unbeaten streak end on Sunday. Dnipro thrashed them 4-1 in a comprehensive victory for the 4th placed side.

Anderlecht will have to come out all guns blazing on Thursday evening, and this could result in a high scoring match. Each of Anderlecht’s last five games in all competitions have seen three or more goals netted, whilst Shakhtar have played their part in goalfests in each of their last five matches as well.

This run of high scoring games, plus the fact that Anderlecht will be on the attack from the outset, makes odds of 9/10 for Over 2.5 Goals very attractive in my opinion. I’m going for a 2-1 Anderlecht win at 9/1 as well.
