Aston Villa vs Norwich Predictions

  • Villa are winless in their last five games (D1, L4).
  • Norwich have avoided defeat in two of their last four games, winning one.
  • Villa have scored just one goal in their last five games.
  • Teemu Pukki has two goals and an assist in his last three games.

Only a win will do for doomed Canaries

Norwich head to Aston Villa on Saturday in desperate need of all three points if they are to mount any kind of end of season survival push.

With just 15 points left to play for, the Canaries are 10 adrift of safety and need to win all of their five remaining games – and even that is unlikely to be enough to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.  Defeat at Villa Park may even see them relegated this weekend.

Villa aren’t quite out of the woods themselves either but they probably only need one more win to guarantee their place in the top tier, as that would see them reach the standard benchmark for survival of 40 points.

Both teams out of form

An under 2.5 goals bet looks a good option for this clash as Villa have scored just two goals in their last five games and Norwich have been poor going forward all season, averaging just 0.67 goals-per-game over the course of the season.

However, this looks like an opportunity to be a bit braver and a Norwich double chance bet may well have a chance. The Canaries away record is terrible – they’ve lost 11 of their 16 trips – but they did come close to a result at Manchester United in their last away game and they face a Villa side who are in terrible form themselves.

The Villans did put in an improved performance in a 0-0 draw at Leicester last time out but that extended their winless run to five games. Steven Gerrard’s men have just two wins in their last nine at home, losing five, and with Norwich clearly the team in greater need they may well be able to get a result at Villa Park.

Confidence low in both attacks

Villa have managed just one goal in their last four games and that strike came courtesy of an 86 minute penalty in a 2-1 loss at Wolves. Norwich may be struggling but they have at least been scoring fairly regularly and they’ve only failed to score in two of their last eight games.

As such, a 1-0 win for the visitors looks a reasonable option in the correct score market and Teemu Pukki stands out as a potential anytime scorer. The Finnish forward has two goals and an assist in his last three games, and has scored 10 of Norwich’s 22 Premier League goals this season.

Aston Villa predicted lineup: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Young, McGinn, Luiz, Ramsey, Buendia, Watkins, Coutinho

Norwich City predicted lineup: Krul, Aarons, Hanley, Gibson, Williams, McLean, Normann, Lees-Melou, Sargent, Pukki, Rashica
