Tip Reasoning

  • Atalanta have won seven of their last ten home Serie A contests.
  • Sassuolo have scored in 18 of their last 20 Serie A away games.
  • Five of the last six meetings between these sides saw Atalanta win with both teams scoring.

Zapata the key to Atalanta holding off Neroverdi

Atalanta scored 49 goals in 19 home games last season, so it seems odd that they have managed to hit the back of the net only once in their first two at Gewiss Stadium this season.

The underlying stats suggest they have created enough quality chances to have scored a couple more, but their finishing has been off kilter.

The return to fitness of leading marksman Duvan Zapata should help and the Colombian has now scored in back-to-back league games after shaking off an injury.

Gli Orobici beat Sassuolo 5-1 at home last season with Zapata at the double and he could have a big say in extending a remarkable pattern when these two sides come together.

Both teams have scored in the last six meetings with Atalanta winning five of them and we believe in a similar outcome being likely on Tuesday.

The Neroverdi finished last season with four straight away wins and took three points from their first road trip of this season in Verona.

But they were fortunate not to be 2-0 down before they opened the scoring at the Bentegodi that day and hung on for the win against a side that had been controversially reduced to ten before half-time.

Despite Sassuolo’s four striker options having supplied just one goal between them this season, Alessio Dionisi’s men find a way to get a goal – as they did in their last away match against Roma.

We think Atalanta have enough goal power to get the win on Tuesday, but can’t discount the visitors from finding the net too given their brilliant record in away games, so will favour a correct score play of 2-1 to Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.
