Strong defence a boost for Atalanta

Sassuolo won both meetings with Atalanta in Serie A last season, claiming their first win in Bergamo in eight attempts with a 3-0 success, but their exploits on the road towards the end of the last campaign suggest they may be hard pushed to repeat that on Sunday.

They come up against one of the strongest home defences in the league as their hosts conceded just 15 times on their own patch on their way to finishing seventh and earning a place in the Conference League.

Just seven of their 19 home league matches featured more than two goals and this could be another clash where successful strikes are in short supply.

Tougher task in store for visitors

Atalanta kept Hapoel Tel Aviv at bay in the Conference League on Thursday and confidence may be low in the Sassuolo camp as they have gone six league away matches without registering a victory.

They did beat Serie B Cesena 3-0 in the Coppa Italia, but this looks a much tougher assignment and Atalanta are taken to win a match which features under 3.5 goals – only one of their last ten meetings has eclipsed that number.
