Augsburg vs Bayern Munich Predictions

Bavarian rivals Bayern Munich and Augbsurg meet for the second time in four days in the Bundesliga this Saturday. Munich saw Augsburg off with relative ease on Wednesday, winning 3-1 at home in the Allianz Arena to progress through to the3rd round of the DFP Pokal. Carlo Ancelotti’s Bayern Munich seemed to have bounced back from a patch of “poor form” with that win being their third consecutive (1 Champions League win, 1 Bundesliga win and 1 DFB-Pokal win).

Augsburg, meanwhile, are without a win in four across all competitions, after a series of difficult fixtures against the inform RB Leipzig, Schalke, Freiburg and guests Bayern Munich (D1 L3). Augsburg will have a hard time imagining they can take anything away from this match too, particularly when they registered only 28% possession and one shot on target against Bayern just a few days earlier. The hosts have also lost more times against Bayern Munich than any other Bundesliga side, for obvious reasons, and the only time they have managed to take away points against Bayern (W2 L11) have both been towards the end of seasons, when their Bavarian neighbors had already been crowned champions.

While Bayern are the bookies’ favourites and the side to back here, odds of 1/5 on Bayern to win doesn’t seem a particularly tempting bet, unless adding them into an accumulator. However, we feel that Bayern Munich to win to nil at 4/5 still offers decent value for the following reasons: Augsburg were fortunate to score with their only shot on target in the cup match on Wednesday and, historically, Bayern perform well in Augsburg – Bayern Munich have won to nil in 4 of the 7 matches (57%) played against Augsburg in the WKK Arena.

Bayern Munich have scored an average of 3 goals per game over their last three matches, whereas, Augsburg have conceded an average of 2 goals per game over the same period, also tending towards goals hitting the back of Augsburg’s net. Bayern Munich’s defense is returning to its old ways and Munich also limited Borussia M’gladbach to just a few shots on goal last weekend, keeping a clean sheet in their 2-0 win there. Bayern have won 2-0 in three of their 7 matches against the hosts in Augsburg (the most common result) and with the tendency of this result in Bayern’s score-sheet we feel at 5/1 that should also be a decent correct score bet here.
