Tip Reasoning

  • Both teams have scored in five of Blackpool’s last seven away league games.
  • Blackburn have not kept a clean sheet in their last four matches.
  • Rovers should have Ben Brereton-Diaz and Bradley Dack available to start.

Revamped Rovers ready for do-or-die derby

Blackburn Rovers have their leading striker and most creative player available to start Saturday’s do-or-die Lancashire derby with Blackpool – and it should lead to a few goals. Tony Mowbray’s side have slipped from second to eighth place in the last three months during a run of only four wins in 15 matches.

Ben Brereton Diaz was given a run-out off the bench in last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Coventry to build him back up again after a seven-game absence and Bradley Dack saw his longest involvement since returning from a second cruciate operation when getting on at half-time in that game. The signs are that both will be involved from the start of this one and not a moment too soon as far as the Ewood Park faithful are concerned.

Rovers were among the division’s highest scorers in the first half of the campaign, but now boast only the Championship’s joint-ninth best attack in terms of goal output. Brereton-Diaz’s spell out seems to have disrupted the balance of the team, so it will be interesting to see if things click back into place on his return.

Blackpool – the leading lights of BTTS

Goals at both ends could be on the cards when Blackpool make the trip east as Rovers have gone four matches without a clean sheet, having kept 11 in their 18 prior to the current sequence. The Seasiders have lost their way since the international break with defeats at home to Nottingham Forest and at rivals Preston, but they still look capable of getting a goal anywhere they play.

Neil Critchley’s men have scored in seven of their last eight away games and only been shut out in three of their 18 Championship road trips this season. At 72%, Blackpool have the highest percentage of their away games land a both teams to score bet in the Championship and we expect it to land again here.

Blackburn, with everything to play for, might just edge this one 2-1 – but don’t expect the hosts to run away with the contest because Blackpool have only once conceded more than two goals on their league travels this term.
