Botafogo vs Colo Colo Predictions

Botafogo have had a rather disappointing start of the season with just one point from their two games in the Carioca 1, and that follows on from their equally disappointing end to their last campaign. They won one, drew three, and lost two of their final six Brazilian Serie A matches so make for a rather anticlimactic finish to the season.

Despite this wilt in form they still managed to finish 5th in the table, and as such find themselves back in the Copa Libertadores for the first time since 2014. That 2014 journey ended in the group stage as they finished bottom of an extremely close group, eventually being just two points off top spot but ultimately leaving empty handed. They remain without a Copa Libertadores win to their name, with their only success to speak of being their semi-final appearances all the way back in 1962 and 1973.

The hosts did manage to win three of their four home matches in that 2014 campaign though, although their league home form towards the end of that season is much less impressive with three wins, three draws, and one defeat making up their seven matches.

Colo Colo’s form, on the other hand, is tremendous. They have beaten Sporting Cristal and Lanus in friendlies over the past couple of weeks to make it six wins on the bounce for them, and they have lost just one of their last 17 games in all competitions.

This led them to the runners up spot in the Chile Primera Division, with them agonisingly missing out on the title on goal difference alone. Their poor form in August and September will be haunting them at the moment considering how close they were to lifting the trophy.

Colo Colo’s excellent domestic history does mean they have a long pedigree in the Copa Libertadores. They finished 3rd in their group last season and won the entire competition back in 1991. 2006 saw them win the Copa Sudamerica, so we can be certain they won’t feel out of their depth here.

Away from home Colo Colo have lost just two of their last 12 outings in all competitions, whilst Botafogo have failed to win any of their last four at home. This makes odds of 11/10 for a Colo Colo Win or Draw Double Chance look an excellent bet, so I’m going for that along with a 1-1 correct score predictions at 11/2.
