Bristol City vs Newcastle Predictions
Newcastle finally got their first Championship points of the season on Wednesday night as they cruised to a 4-1 win at home to Reading, with Dwight Gayle bagging his first goals for the Geordies since his big money summer move from Crystal Palace. It was a dominant Second Half showing from Newcastle who must have feared they were in for another frustrating evening when Gareth McCleary equalised on the stroke of half-time for the Royals. Rafa Benitez will be hopeful that the win will act as a springboard for their season and will be keen to back that up with another strong showing here.
This though is anything but an easy game. Bristol City are being talked about as dark-horses for the play-offs and have one of the most dangerous strike-forces in the league in the shape of Jonathan Kodjia and loan signing Tammy Abraham, who has 4 goals to his name already this season. Bristol City won all of their opening 3 games including the League Cup win over Wycombe but were beaten 1-0 at Norwich on Tuesday night.
A quirk of the fixture list has meant their opening 5 league games are all against sides who weren’t in the Championship last season. They beat newly promoted Wigan and Burton 2-1 in their opening 2 matches. This is the second of three successive games against sides that have just dropped out of the Premier League, with Aston Villa visiting Ashton Gate next weekend.
With Newcastle yet to keep a clean sheet, you’d have to expect the hosts to get at least a goal in this game, but Newcastle’s attacking players look to just be clicking into gear and working more effectively together ,so the visitors should also see some joy in front of goal. Backing both teams to score at 8/11 looks to offer the best value in this one.
