Burton Albion vs Bury Predictions

In all honesty Burton are unlikely to pay too much attention to the cups this season. They are playing in the Second tier for the first time in their entire history and clearly trying to stay in the Championship is going to take absolute priority over everything else. They were involved in an opening day thriller at the City Ground on Saturday when Burton were ultimately defeated 4-3 by their East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest.

Nigel Clough would have taken positives from the performance though, particularly in the final third where they played some good football. He is likely to make wholesale changes here though for this clash against Bury and that should give the visitors a real chance.

Burton Albion are more used to attempting giant killings than stopping them and even though they remain a small club, their Championship status makes them something of a coup for sides from League One and League Two. They of course were in the same league as Bury last season but failed to beat them and the Greater Manchester outfit have a good overall record against Burton.

Bury beat a side that were in the Championship last term on the opening day of the new season as they saw off Charlton 2-0 at Gigg Lane. They were a bit hit and miss last season and will be striving for greater consistency here. A cup run is always welcome for the teams lower down and the chance to play a top flight side in Round 2 will appeal to Bury.

They will come into the game with confidence following their weekend win and also their good showings against Burton last term. Against most likely a weakened home side, they could spring a surprise and backing Bury to win 2-1 at 12/1 looks to offer value.
