Reason For Burton Albion vs Leicester City Predictions

Burton play host to Leicester on Tuesday evening, as they look to treat a home crowd to a win against Premier League opposition. The Foxes will be looking for yet more goals after notching no less than nine on Friday night.

It’s been a steady start to the season for Burton in League 1. They’ve certainly not set the division alight, but they’ve been relatively sturdy and aren’t easy to get at. Interestingly, only league leaders Ipswich have conceded less goals than the Brewers, who’ve shipped just two goals in six home matches. The fact that they’ve have kept a clean sheet in each of their last four at Pirelli Stadium should mean that Nigel Clough’s men come into this fixture feeling confident, even if they’re up against a Premier League side that has impressed this term.

Not only have Burton kept four consecutive home clean sheets in League 1, but they successfully shut out Premier League opponents on route to this stage, beating Bournemouth by two goals to nil in round three. The Cherries weren’t at full strength when visiting Pirelli Stadium, though their line-up did contain several first-team regulars, so the fact that the Brewers kept a clean sheet and emerged with an expected goal difference of +0.73 is impressive.

Unfortunately, Tuesday’s hosts haven’t exactly impressed offensively at their own level, as they average only 0.5 goals for at home. What’s more, they are up against a Leicester City side that is in red-hot form at present. The Foxes come into this game off the back of battering Southampton on Friday night, scoring nine on route to victory, while they’ve won four of their last five in the top-flight.

In addition to some impressive performances in England’s highest division, Brendan Rodgers’ top-four chasers delivered a commanding performance in the previous round of this competition, beating Championship side Luton by four goals to nil. On that occasion, the Foxes showed domination against opposition from a lower level, which was something that they were more than comfortable with.

In the betting, Leicester are obviously heavy odds-on favourites to win this game and rightly so, though backing them to simply get the job done at such a price doesn’t appeal much. One bet that does stand out is ‘Leicester to Win & Under 3.5 Goals’. Burton are an organised, disciplined unit. Time and time again in League 1 this season, they’ve restricted teams at home and have been very tough to get the better of. Moreover, Nigel Clough’s men will have no problem getting men behind the ball and frustrating, much as they did against Bournemouth before looking to hit on the break.

Leicester undoubtedly have the quality to come through this tie, but against useful opposition, who’re used to keeping things tight, they’re backed to do so without completely running riot.
