Cambridge United vs Millwall Predictions
- Cambridge have not won any of their last five League Cup games over 90 minutes
- Millwall have only suffered three first round exits in the last 13 years
- Cambridge lost 3-1 to Millwall in the Carabao Cup second round last season
Can Cambridge cause an upset?
League One side Cambridge enjoyed a solid enough start to the new campaign on Saturday when they beat MK Dons 1-0.
However, their record in the League Cup is poor, failing to reach the second round in four of the last five seasons, with the anomaly being last year, when they edged past Swindon on penalties.
It is difficult to predict just how seriously any club will take this competition, but one thing for sure is Mark Bonner’s side struggle against Millwall, who they have not beaten in nine games since April 1992.
Millwall should have enough to go through
Millwall meanwhile got their 2021/22 campaign off to a winning start as well, beating Stoke City 2-0 in the Championship on Saturday.
The Lions have a strong record in this competition, and you have to go back to 2003/04 for the last time they lost over 90 minutes to a team in a league below them, when suffering a 1-0 reversal to Oxford.
They beat Cambridge 3-1 in the second round last year and have not been beaten over 90 minutes in an away EFL Cup game since 2011.
I predict that Millwall will win this game, with a 2-0 victory to the away side my correct score prediction.
