Battle between Slovenian and Slovakian champions

Slovan Bratislava dominated the first leg of their Champions League play-off against Celje, despite drawing 1-1 with their opponents, and they should be able to get compensation on the road in this second leg.

The Slovakians racked up 1.66 expected goals to their opponents 0.30 and they can pick up the victory needed to reach the league phase on the short journey to take on their Slovenian opponents.

The visitors are unbeaten in nine games in all competitions this season, winning seven of those, and have a much better recent European record than Celje.

They reached the league phase of this competition two seasons ago and have competed in the league phase of a UEFA competition in every campaign since 2018/19.

That experience should see them progress against a Celje side who needed penalties to get past Albanian side Egnatia before squeezing past Ararat-Armenia in the last qualifying round.

By contrast Slovan Bratislava beat Swedish champions Mjallby 4-1 on aggregate and that level of form is way ahead of anything that their hosts can bring to the table recently.
