Chapecoense vs Sao Paulo Predictions

Sunday’s Brazilian Serie A action sees Chapecoense doing battle with Sao Paulo at the Arena Condá. A close game is expected to be in order as the two sides fight for the points on offer.

Coming into the season as one of the weakest sides in Serie A on paper, it was always going to be a big ask for Chapecoense to beat relegation once again. Indeed, results on the pitch hasn’t been good and the side look on course for Serie B football next season, well adrift of safety with just 21 points to their name from 29 games.

Nonetheless, the side have been showing the fighting qualities that have typified them in recent years and fans are hoping that a great escape could be on. Indeed, Chape have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, losing just 1 of their last 5 games and whilst 3 of said games ended all square, spirits are high coming into Sunday’s game after an excellent 2-0 away win at Atletico Mineiro in midweek.

Meanwhile, Sao Paulo put in a dreadful performance in their own midweek clash, going down 3-0 away at arch rivals Palmeiras, leaving fans extremely angry. Nonetheless, Tricolor cannot afford to dwell on the result as they are in the midst or an intense battle for a top 6 place, coming into this game stationed in 4th place with 49 points from 29 matches.

What is a concern for Sao Paulo is that said defeat to Palmeiras continued their dreadful away form, which is really weighing them down. Indeed, the side may well be a powerful force on home turf, but they’ve now won just 1 of their last 7 outings on the road and haven’t even so much as scored a goal in their last 4 trips.

Ultimately, we’re expecting this to be a tight and even game. On paper, Sao Paulo are clearly a better team than Chapecoense but the hosts are proving much harder to beat lately and the visitor’s away form does little to inspire confidence in that changing.

All things considered, backing a draw looks the best way to play as far as the betting goes and is something we’re more than happy to do. Chapecoesne’s last 2 home matches have ended all square and with Sao Paulo struggling desperately for goals away from home, a 0-0 stalemate could well be on the cards.
