Frankfurt can claim first win

Eintracht Frankfurt allowed a two-goal lead to slip away as they had to settle for a point at Union Berlin in the opening round of fixtures and now take on Augsburg in their first home game.

The visitors enjoyed a strong start to the season with a convincing 3-0 success against promoted Schalke but they have a poor record as they away side in this fixture.

Augsburg haven’t won at Frankfurt since 2019 and have lost two of their last three trips to this venue. The Bavarian outfit struggled on their travels in general last season with 10 defeats in 17 trips, while Frankfurt were generally strong at home for most of the campaign until their form dipped in the closing weeks.

At just shy of evens, Frankfurt look good value to claim maximum points here and if Adi Hutter’s side are to come out on top they may need to keep a clean sheet. Frankfurt won seven home games in the Bundesliga last season and six of those wins came to nil. These sides were both involved in high-scoring games last weekend but this game could follow a different pattern and a 1-0 home win has a chance.

Frankfurt will be the team forcing the issue but Augsburg showed enough quality at the back against Schalke to suggest they can restrict their hosts’ chances, and one goal may be enough to decide this contest.
