Colorado Rapids vs New York Red Bulls Predictions
Colorado Rapids finished last season at the bottom of the MLS Western Conference after averaging just over a point per game throughout the season, but they seem to have turned a big corner during the off season.
They began the new MLS campaign with a defeat away to San Jose Earthquakes, but since then they have managed to beat LA Galaxy, Toronto FC, and Sporting Kansas City. They have dropped points in a draw at DC United and a 1-0 loss at Real Salt Lake, but I think they will be forgiven for these results after three impressive wins.
This puts their tally at ten points from their opening six MLS matches, leaving them in the playoff positions that they will be hoping to occupy come the end of the regular season.
New York Red Bulls are on the opposite end of the spectrum to their hosts. They won the MLS Supporters Shield last season after picking up 60 points from their 34 matches, but they just haven’t been able to get going so far in this campaign.
They began with a 2-0 loss at home to Toronto FC and then a 3-0 loss at Montreal Impact. They managed to pick up their first points of the season in a 4-3 thriller at home to Houston Dynamo, but since then they have lost to New England Revolution, Sporting Kansas City, and San Jose Earthquakes.
Strangely, despite netting four against Houston Dynamo, New York Red Bulls have failed to score in any of their other five MLS matches this season, but have conceded ten times in these five matches.
Colorado Rapids have kept a clean sheet in two of their three home matches this season as well, so we could well see a Colorado Rapids clean sheet here. The hosts haven’t seen Both Teams Score in any of their three home games so far this season, and New York Red Bulls haven’t in any of their last six away days.
This makes odds of 10/11 for Both Teams Not to Score look incredibly good value, and I’m backing that along with a 1-0 Colorado Rapids win at 13/2.
