      Crewe vs Macclesfield Predictions

      • Crewe have won four of their last five and sit in third position, two points off top spot.
      • Macclesfield have now gone six games without a win and find themselves eight points clear of relegation.
      • Crewe are the top scorers in the league, netting 60 times in 33 games.
      • Macclesfield have scored just 32 times, less than a goal a game but conceded 40 times.

Can Crewe roll on towards automatic promotion?

Crewe have been one of the best sides to watch this season, scoring at will and performing above most people’s expectations for the majority of the year. They currently sit in third place but are only two points behind leaders, Swindon as the race for automatic promotion to League One really begins to hot up.

Crewe have scored 60 goals so far this season, an average of 1.81 goals per game, and this is a figure that they’ve matched over the past five weeks with nine goals in that time. Defensively the side have been a little worse than the teams around them, conceding 40 goals so far and they will be keen to reduce the amount they concede as the run in starts.

Will Macclesfield be pulled closer into a relegation battle?

Macclesfield have had their fair share of troubles this season and their current league position shows this. They currently sit two places and eight points above the relegation zone and this hasn’t been helped by a six point deduction imposed at the beginning of the season. They haven’t been good enough on the pitch though and have picked up just seven wins all season.

Macclesfield have only managed to find the net 32 times this season, less than a goal a game and whilst their defensive record isn’t too bad (40 goals conceded) they simply don’t score enough to pull themselves away from the relegation zone. Stevenage’s poor season is likely to mean Macclesfield are safe this season but they still need to find more points to ensure they don’t get sucked into a full scale relegation battle.

Who will prevail in this match between clubs of differing fortunes?

It would be a brave person to back Macclesfield this weekend as they come up against a Crewe side that are chasing promotion and we don’t think there is any value in picking either side to win outright. There does appear to be value in Crewe to win and over 2.5 goals however and we’re backing exactly that to happen.

With that initial prediction in our minds, we’re confident that the Crewe side will score plenty this weekend and with Macclesfield struggling in front of goal, we can’t see them getting on the scoresheet. We’re backing Crewe to run out comfortable victors in a 3-0 win.
