Deportes Temuco vs San Lorenzo Predictions
Wednesday’s Copa Sudamericana second round, second leg action sees Chileans Deportes Temuco playing host to Argentine giants San Lorenzo. A close end to a tie now plagued by controversy is expected to be in order.
Temuco went into the first leg as massive underdogs and were expected to lose heavily. Instead, the Chileans looked to have written one of the best days in their history as they stunned San Lorenzo 2-1 with a fantastic showing, but their lead has now been cruelly taken away after they subbed on new signing Jonathan Requena, who is not eligible to play in the Sudamericana having already been registered in former club Defensa y Justicia’s squad for the competition.
An appeal to competition organiser CONMEBOL could yet see the decision overturned but as things stand, the hosts find themselves 3-0 down and essentially out of continental action. Nonetheless, unbeaten in 6 outings, Temuco are playing well at the moment and will want to pick up as good a result as possible in case they manage to get their first leg advantage restored.
Meanwhile, San Lorenzo’s sorry showing on home soil was yet another example of their weak state. El Ciclon play some of the most uninspiring football in Argentina under boss Claudio Biaggio and with a side looking short on quality, fans are far from pleased with the current state of the club.
The visitors managed to finish third in the Argentine Superliga last season but coming anywhere close to that position looks unlikely, given the performances they’ve shown. San Lorenzo were very poor in their opening league outing with Tigre on Saturday, drawing 2-2 despite offering very little. As far as the Sudamericana is concerned, they find themselves in such a strong position in this tie through luck rather than ability but for all their problems it’s hard to see them throwing away such a strong advantage.
Ultimately, Temuco’s appeal is highly unlikely to succeed, given the rule-book is clearly on San Lorenzo’s side. As such, we can be relatively assured that it’s San Lorenzo who will advance and holding such a big lead, we expect them to play in typically dull fashion, creating a tight match.
On paper, even with their weaknesses, San Lorenzo are a far stronger outfit than Temuco but the Chileans have already shown they can match them. All things considered, we really like the look of backing the draw in Wednesday’s match at more than reasonable odds. 3 of Temuco’s last 4 home games have ended all square, as have 4 of San Lorenzo’s last 5 away games and we envisage the score reading 1 goal a piece come the full time whistle.
