Frankfurt have been in fantastic form recently, but can they continue that against this faltering Marseille side?

Everything has been clicking for Frankfurt these past two months. Goals have been flying in, they’ve been solid at the back and now have a great chance of qualifying for the Europa League group stage despite finishing 9th last year and only qualifying via their DFB-Pokal cup win.

They are unbeaten in their last 10 matches, scoring 32 and conceding eight in the process. This has seen them rise to 2nd in the Bundesliga behind Borussia Dortmund and ahead of the likes of Leipzig, Bayern and Hoffenheim. Much of their success has been down to the quality of their incredible front-three. Luka Jovic, Sebastien Haller and Ante Rebic have been directly involved in more than 35 goals this season and have been ripping up all who stand in their way. They have only lost two games but these were in the first few matches of the season when they were getting used to Adi Hutter’s new way of playing.

Frankfurt have won every European game this season and are on a four-match winning streak with Schalke, Augsburg, Stuttgart and Apollon Limassol all being brushed aside. They have been so consistent this season and should be beating this Marseille side with ease as they have won their last five home games.

Marseille are completely out of the running for the knockout stage now after three defeats in their opening four group games, but they could try to scupper Frankfurt’s chances of finishing top after the Germans beat them in dramatic fashion in September. Marseille have just come out of a pretty terrible run where they lost four consecutive games against four pretty tough teams. PSG, Montpellier and Lazio, twice, all got wins over them, but Marseille have bounced back from this with back-to-back victories.

These came against Dijon and Amiens, not the most difficult opponents but Rudi Garcia will be pleased that his side managed to score five and get 12 shots on target in these games. They really did dominate these matches and will be looking to continue this form against Frankfurt but Marseille have struggled in every game against ‘big’ teams this season. They have only won one of their matches against Lazio, Rennes, Monaco, Frankfurt, Lille, Apollon, PSG and Montpellier and that was against this extremely woeful Monegasque side which wasn’t much of an achievement. Marseille always seem to struggle against the larger teams but with the pressure of qualification off in this game, could the Olympians swing this one?

Marseille have only won two of their last seven on the road while Frankfurt have won each of their last five at the Commerzbank Nebenplatz. Frankfurt have scored 20 goals in these five games and should be looking to add to that against a Marseille side who have conceded 11 in their last six. Frankfurt still managed to win this game in September despite playing the last 30 minutes with ten men and with them bang in form, we can only see this match going one way as Eintracht try to secure top place in the group. We’re going to back 3-1 to Frankfurt as Marseille have scored well in their last two matches while Eintracht have only kept three clean sheets in their last 15 games.
