Everton vs Southampton Predictions

Everton failed to win yet against on Wednesday when they visited Selhurst Park and came away with a goalless draw against Crystal Palace. This made it four games without a win for Everton, and in the Premier League they have lost three and drawn two of their last five outings.

This is putting Roberto Martinez under a bit of pressure. He looked to have alleviated the Goodison Park faithful in winter when they won five matches in a run of six, but if it weren’t for their upcoming FA Cup semi final I think there would be talk of Martinez’ departure.

They sit in a very disappointing 12th position in the Premier League, which is a real concern considering they have three potentially world class players in Ross Barkley, John Stones, and Romelu Lukaku. It’s very doubtful that they will be able to hang on to their talents with no European football.

Southampton are still in the hunt for European football, and their recent good form has led them to 7th position in the table. Their comfortable 3-1 win over Newcastle at the weekend saw them close the gap on 6th placed West Ham to just two points as well, and even a top four spot isn’t entirely out of the question.

This win over Newcastle made it three wins from their last four games, ending their three match winless streak in the process. Overall they are in excellent form this year, with eight wins, three defeats, and two draws in their last 13 matches in all competitions.

Away from home Southampton are in decent shape as well. They have won three of their last six in the Premier League and lost twice, whilst Everton have lost three on the bounce at Goodison Park and have only won one league match in their last nine attempts there.

This clearly gives the form edge in Southampton’s favour, and I think they can get a win against the out of sorts Liverpudlians on Saturday. Everton’s job is made even harder by the potential absence of key figures such as Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines, and Ross Barkley. Odds of 21/20 for a Southampton Draw No Bet look exceptionally good value too, and I’m going for that along with a 2-1 correct score prediction at 10/1.
