FC Porto vs Vitoria Setubal Predictions

Porto won 1-0 away at Boavista before the international break and their return sees them play host to Vitoria Setubal in Taca de Portugal. The visitors have had a mediocre start to the new season and currently sit four points above the drop zone but despite winning this competition three times before, most recently in 2005, Sunday’s guests haven’t won any of their last 51 games against Porto.

All of the stats point towards Porto claiming all three points and keeping a clean sheet on Sunday and we have backed the scoreline to finish 1-0 in their favour.

Porto may decide to rotate some of their regular starters with the Europa League tie against Young Boys coming just four days after Sunday’s Taca de Portugal match, but with 46 wins in their last 51 games against Setubal, the hosts will be confident of progressing through to the next round.

Porto have won all of their five home games in the Primeira Liga this season and haven’t conceded a single goal in their own backyard, scoring thirteen times, while Vitoria Setubal have only scored one goal on the road and it’s no surprise that they are yet to win away from home in the league.

Despite having a scoring ratio of 0.20 goals per game on the road this season, Setubal haven’t been getting beaten heavily. The visitors have only conceded seven goals in their five away games and just 40% of those matches have produced over 1.5 goals, so they can be frustratingly difficult to break down at times.

Porto have outplayed their guests in all departments this season and with wins-to-nil in all of their home games so far, we’re backing the hosts to keep a clean sheet and do enough at the other end of the pitch to progress through to the next round. The hosts have scored an average of 2.60 goals at home this season and even with the expected changes to their starting lineup, we’re confident they will secure a 1-0 win.
