Genoa vs Chievo Predictions

Chievo remain bottom of the table in Serie A, but can they make a move in this midweek round of games? The Gialloblu head to Genoa on Wednesday night, and they sit with -1 point in last place, after being handed a three point deduction. Even without that they’d be in the danger zone, so it’s hard to have much sympathy for a Chievo side who pulled some sneaky tactics to stay in the top flight. Their time in the division could end this season based on this start, but can they turn things around at Genoa?

The hosts have made a solid start so far, although they did lose 4-1 at Lazio at the weekend. Six points from four matches isn’t a bad return, and the bad news for Chievo is that those points came from two home games. Empoli and Bologna – two of the current bottom four – have already lost trips here. With the hosts looking much improved, Chievo should be worried. The visitors were beaten comfortably at home by Udinese at the weekend, and they look to be in real danger.

Genoa do have the fantastic Krzysztof Piatek going forward, and that’s a boost to their chances of scoring here. They come in to this clash with the forward aiming to continue his brilliant campaign so far. After announcing himself with four goals in a clash with Lecce, he’s added five goals in four league games to bring his tally to the campaign to nine. If he scores for a fifth straight league game, then he’ll already be in double figures by the end of September, a rare achievement. We think the new Serie A sensation will keep up his form, so we’re backing him to find the net against a dodgy Chievo defence.

He should fire Genoa to glory, given Cheivo’s form of late. They were lucky to gain a point at Roma, and Genoa should be organised enough at home to keep the Gialloblu at bay. We’re tipping them to edge the clash on Wednesday and take the points, to follow up their great home record so far. A Genoa win is our tip, along with backing Piatek to score and a 2-0 win to the hosts.
