Wounded Getafe Backed to Respond
Getafe suffered a humiliating 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Athletic Bilbao on Monday night, but we’re supporting Los Azulones to hit back this weekend when they entertain an Alaves side who have lost their last four La Liga games.
After taking a first minute lead through Marc Cucurella, Getafe were completely dismantled at San Mames by a Bilbao outfit buoyant following their recent Supercopa de Espana triumph. Getafe have been used to losing matches this season with eight suffered in total, but the manner of defeat will have stung Pepe Bordalas’ charges who are a notoriously difficult unit to beat.
As such, a passioned response should be forthcoming from the Madrilenians this weekend and they did post consecutive La Liga victories over Elche (1-3) and Huesca (1-0) prior to Monday’s collapse.
Despite a poor season to date overall, the hosts have still picked up their share of wins at the Coliseum (W4, D2, L4) and they should have enough quality to edge out Alaves, who are five places and five points behind them in 18th.
The visitors travel to the capital hoping to avoid a fifth straight league loss here. Three of their recent defeats came against top opposition, however their record of two wins, two draws and five defeats on the road this season hardly inspires confidence about a riposte.
Four out of the last five encounters between the sides have finished all square including a 0-0 stalemate at Mendizorroza back in September, but we fancy Getafe to tough out the three points in this one.
The last three meetings have all produced under 2.5 goals which has also been the case in eight of Getafe’s ten outings at home this term, so we’re also forecasting a 1-0 correct score.
