With rivals Chesterfield in FA Cup action, Halifax were able to move top of the National League with a 4-0 thrashing of Eastleigh. The Yorkshire club are now on a six-match unbeaten run in the league, and have lost just three of their last 22 competitive games.

At home, Halifax have won eight of their 10 league fixtures, scoring 22 goals and conceding 7, and only promotion rivals Wrexham have won at The Shay since an opening day reverse to Maidenhead.

Halifax drew 1-1 at Tuesday’s opponents Grimsby just a week ago, ending a run of three successive defeats for the Mariners. In fact, that was only the second time that Grimsby have avoided defeat in their last nine games, of which they’ve won one and lost seven, slipping towards mid-table obscurity.

Back Halifax to make home advantage tell

Although Grimsby earned a point at home to Halifax, their away record is poor; they’ve lost on five of their 10 away trips in this National League season, their last away league win coming in early October.
