Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

Hamburg’s defence has shipped at least two goals in three of their last five home games. They have also scored multiple goals in those three games and may need to repeat that feat against an RB Leipzig side coming off back-to-back Bundesliga 2-2 draws.

Christoph Baumgartner To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Christoph Baumgartner scored a brace against Dortmund last week to take his Bundesliga goals tally into double figures. He looks like the most likely scorer for the visitors against a Hamburg defence that has shipped at least two goals in three of their last five home games.

Hamburg vs RB Leipzig Predictions

Merlin’s men are magic at home

Sunday’s late Bundesliga games promised to be a closely fought and exciting affair as in-form Hamburg host Europe-chasing RB Leipzig at Volksparkstadion.

Hamburg are unbeaten in their last seven Bundesliga home games, a run which includes games against leaders Bayern, second-placed Dortmund and Stuttgart in fourth. Merlin Polzin’s men have only been beaten twice in front of their own supporters – a 1-0 defeat to Wolfsburg in a game they totally dominated and in the derby right at the start of the season.

But they are down in 11th place in the table because they have drawn too many games – a Bundesliga-leading eight to be precise.

Baumgartner is the biggest goal threat

The chances of this clash finishing all square cannot be ignored given HSV have drawn four of their last six and RB Leipzig come into it from back-to-back 2-2 stalemates. The Red Bulls have had a tough run of matches of late, winning only one of their last six, but their only defeat in February came at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena.

In-form striker Christoph Baumgartner bagged a first-half brace against Dortmund last week to take his tally to 14 for the season – 10 in the league. He looks like the obvious candidate to get a goal in Hamburg, where the home side have kept only one clean sheet in the last nine games.

HSV have shipped exactly two goals in three of their last five at Volksparkstadion, scoring multiple goals on each of those occasions too. And with RB Leipzig having scored 17 times in 11 away league trips, it may be worth backing another 2-2 draw here.
