HJK narrowly missed out on the Finland Veikkausliiga title last season as they finished in 3rd position, one point behind 2nd placed RoPS and two adrift of champions SJK.

However, this season they look to be firmly in the driving seat to win the title, although with 12 games still left to play they are by no means sure fire favourites. They do sit atop the Veikkausliiga table though, and with current champions SJK down in 7th position they can write off a challenge from them. It’s Mariehamn and RoPS that they have to worry about, with the former being just a point behind them and the latter four points adrift with a game in hand.

It is still HJK’s title to lose, but they’re doing a pretty good job of pushing it to the wire at the moment. They have failed to win any of their last four matches in all competitions, drawing three league games in a row and losing 2-0 at home to IFK Goteborg to send them crashing out of the Europa League. At home in the Veikkausliiga it’s a different story though, with eight of their ten home games this season ending in victory and the remaining two being draws.

KuPS finished last term down in a disappointing 9th position and ended up just six points clear of the relegation playoff position. This season they have dramatically improved though, and their 32 point tally leaves them 5th in the table. They are just six points adrift of last season’s total accumulation and they have 12 games left to play.

The visitors 1-0 win over title challengers Mariehamn in midweek ended a three match streak without a win for them, but they haven’t been the best side on the road this season. They have lost five of their ten away days this season and won just three.

Four of these ten matches have seen at least three goals scored in them, whilst HJK’s ten home games have yielded seven high scoring games, thanks to their efficient attack on home turf. They have scored 26 goals at home in these ten games, so backing Over 2.5 Goals at 21/20 looks very good value for money. I’m going for a 3-1 win for HJK for my correct score prediction at 12/1.
