Huddersfield vs Preston Predictions

Huddersfield still have a mathematical chance of automatic promotion but little more than that in truth after a run of 3 defeats in 4. However, with such a strong home record, they’ll be confident of winning this against a Preston side, who look like they will fall just short of a top six finish.

Simon Grayson’s men have had another very strong campaign and when they hammered Bristol City 5-0 last week, you began to really wonder if they were going to be the side to put a late run together and clinch a play-off spot at the death. However, they were sent shuddering back to Earth with a heavy 3-0 loss at Leeds at the weekend and in truth, they probably are a little bit short on genuine top six quality.

Their away form has let them down of late. Preston have gone 8 matches and over 3 months without an away win. They’ve only scored 4 goals in their last 7 away matches and 62% of their points this season have come at Deepdale. Their average of 1.15 points per game on the road isn’t terrible but neither is it really good enough for a play-off chasing team.

Huddersfield by comparison average 2.2 points per game at home. They’ve won an excellent 70% of their home fixtures in the Championship this term and it has been this strong base which has allowed them to mount a serious promotion bid. Most of their recent wobbles have been away so they should still approach this game with confidence, having won 6 of their last 8 at home in the league.

That includes a convincing 3-0 win over Norwich in their last home outing in which top scorer Elias Kachunga ended a mini goal drought. He has been one of the keys to their success this term and backing Kachunga to score anytime at 7/5 could be worth a punt here.

To maintain even a glimmer of a chance of reaching the play-offs, Preston will surely have to win this match and that might just play into Huddersfield’s hands to some extent, as it will create space for them at the other end and backing Huddersfield to Win at 5/6 looks like it could be the best bet here.
