Hull vs Leicester Predictions

Hull looked like the standout performers for much of last season in the Championship but a dip in form allowed the likes of Burnley and Middlesbrough to steal automatic promotion from them, resulting in them facing the lottery of the playoffs.

However, they rekindled their form as they beat Derby County 3-2 on aggregate before dispatching of Sheffield Wednesday at Wembley to secure an immediate return to the top flight. Unfortunately, things aren’t looking overly promising for them.

They have seemingly refused to shell out any money in the transfer market. They have lost Mohamed Diame, Ryan Taylor, and Sone Aluko and only brought in Jonathan Edwards on a free transfer from Peterborough. Their squad simply isn’t strong enough at the moment and without any new players coming in I can’t see them faring very well in the Premier League this season.

Pre-season has gone fairly well for them but they haven’t faced a single club up to the quality of the Premier League so far and their only defeat during the summer came against Torino on Saturday.

Leicester haven’t had the greatest of pre-seasons after their incredible Premier League win last season but to be fair to them they have faced much tougher opposition. They beat Celtic on penalties afterwins against Oxford United and Nuneaton Town but they followed this with thrashings at the hands of PSG and Barcelona.

Sunday saw them contest the Community Shield as well against FA Cup winners Manchester United, and whilst they looked far from out of their depth the Manchester side did control much of the play. Jesse Lingard scored a dazzling opener before Jamie Vardy got his season off to a flyer with an equaliser. However, the incoming Zlatan Ibrahimovic headed in a deserved winner for Manchester United. This was their first competitive defeat in 13 matches.

Despite the defeat, there were some positives to hold on to. Ahmed Musa and Jamie Vardy looked very dangerous going forward with more pace than any other striking partnership in the league, whilst new signing Nampalys Mendy looks a useful replacement for N’Golo Kante.

Leicester have the quality and confidence about them to do well this season, although I strongly doubt they will retain their Premier League trophy with the Champions League to contest as well. They definitely have enough to get past Hull though and odds of 11/10 for a Leicester Win look very good value for money. I’m backing that along with a 2-1 correct score prediction at 9/1.
