      Ipswich vs Tranmere Predictions

Last season there was a full division’s gap between Ipswich Town and Tranmere Rovers, but following the former’s relegation from the Championship and the latter’s promotion from League Two, the two face off in England’s third tier this weekend.

Ipswich Town may have suffered relegation last term but they have not wasted any time in their bid to return to the Championship. The hosts sit at the top of League One and with just four goals conceded all season, it is easy to see why. However, if there is a chink in the armour, then it’s their form on home soil which has not exactly been top drawer, as they have claimed just eight points in front of their own fans so far this season.

The curse of the former player coming back to haunt his old team could well be on display in this fixture this weekend as James Norwood should lead the line for Ipswich Town. The striker’s goals were essential in firing Tranmere both back into the Football League and then into League One, and since his move, he has five goals in his nine matches and he looks like a good bet to find the back of the net once again this weekend.

It is fair to say that things have been pretty tough for Tranmere Rovers since their promotion to League One as they have claimed nine points from their first nine matches. It is not as if things have improved of late either, as their win against Burton last weekend was their first in six matches, and given that they have conceded 16 times this season, it is easy to see where their problems can be found.

The expectations of how these two sides would fare this season is pretty much where both sides currently find themselves in the early stages, and their form going into this match suggests only one winner. Although this is the first meeting between these teams for 19 years, the fact that Ipswich are undefeated in their last seven matches with Tranmere furthers our belief that they will claim the three points this weekend and it is here where we shall be placing our money.

We are not done there though, as the head to head also reveals that Tranmere have failed to score in their last six matches against Ipswich, and given that the hosts have conceded just four times this season, it is a trend we believe is set to continue. With this in mind, we think that backing the hosts to win to nil represents an excellent opportunity to boost the return on offer, and is also reflected by our  correct score tip of a 2-0 win for the hosts.
