We use stars to rate our confidence in our tips, with 3 being most confident to 1 being the least.
Leeds 1-0 @ 5/1

Reason For Leeds vs Sheffield Wednesday Predictions

  • Leeds have lost 1 of their last 15 Championship games.
  • The hosts have seen under 2.5 goals in 75% of their home games.
  • Leeds have kept a clean sheet in 50% of their home games this season.
  • 100% of Sheffield Wednesday’s league defeats have been by a single goal.

Owls ‘ Fall from Grace

Not long ago Sheffield Wednesday were the main challengers to Leeds and West Brom’s automatic promotion ambitions. However, the Owls have slipped down to eighth following a three-game losing streak in the Championship. Now their playoff ambitions are under threat ahead of this clash with Leeds on Saturday.

The visitors head to Elland Road hoping to turn around their form, while the hosts have claimed just one win in six in all competitions. That’s something which won’t please Marcelo Bielsa, even if they head into this game in top spot in the table. Can Leeds produce a big response to get their promotion campaign up and running in 2020?

Leeds Making Their Mark

The hosts may be going through a tough run of form in the league, but they’ve got a great season to look back on so far. Leeds always looked like the strongest team in the division this season, while they’ve proven themselves with some strong displays up to this point. The hosts have lost just one of their last 15 matches in the Championship (W9 D5 L1) with that run set to continue here.

Leeds have won seven and lost once at home this term, giving them one of the best records across the division. They are the side with the second-best defensive record in the Championship, with their aggressive pressing style making them a tough team to breakthrough. Leeds come into this game with a clean sheet in 50% of their home games so far.

Test of Wednesday’s Resolve

The Owls are coming into this clash fourth in the defensive charts, so we don’t expect this clash to be all that open. The Owls are likely to put up a fight at the back, having conceded a goal per game so far this term. They are likely to find it tough going up against this Leeds’ defence, with the hosts the masters of low scoring games at home so far.

The hosts have seen under 2.5 goals land in 75% of their home clashes so far. Meanwhile, the same has landed in over half of Wednesday’s league games. These two sides have seen fewer than three goals in five of their last six meetings at this ground, so we are backing the same again here. Under 2.5 goals is our pick in this clash.

We expect a narrow home win here, with Leeds are unbeaten in three league games against Sheffield Wednesday (W1 D2) since losing 2-1 at Elland Road in March 2018. Sheffield Wednesday are without a clean sheet in their last 12 away league visits to Leeds since winning 2-0 in the Premier League in August 1996. Wednesday have lost by a single goal in 100% of their defeats this season, so we’re backing a 1-0 Leeds victory.
