Nice look likely to draw a blank

Lille have conceded just four times in their last nine Ligue 1 matches and they should boost their Champions League qualifying credentials by seeing off struggling Nice on Saturday.

A home clean sheet looks likely against a team who beat them 2-0 in the reverse fixture on October 29, but have won just twice in the league since.

Don’t expect them to get on the scoresheet in this one. Nice have drawn a blank when they have visited Paris Saint-Germain, Lens and Lyon this season while they have yet to travel to the Stade Velodrome to beat Marseille, so they do not have a great record against Lille’s rivals in the top five.

Don’t expect Lille to run riot

Lille’s last home game was a great success when they beat second-placed Lens 3-0 and their confidence will have only been boosted by the 4-0 victory they posted at Toulouse last time out.

Their defence is holding firm, but while Nice have the second worst home defence in the French top-flight – only bottom-of-the-table Metz have conceded more – the home side have failed to score more than once in ten of 14 home games, so backing a 1-0 win may be a sensible strategy for correct-score punters.
