Mid-table obscurity an all too real reality for Lille

Ever since Christophe Galtier departed Lille back in 2020/21, Lille have looked like a mid-table outfit and that’s exactly how this season is beginning to pan out having secured just three victories across their opening seven league matches. They concede far too many goals under Paulo Fonseca and given how leaky they are defensively, they often try to resort to a ‘we’ll just score more than you’ approach.

The visitors are the underdogs here and it’s not hard to see why when they have lost their last two away matches and have failed to keep a clean sheet in four of their last five outings overall. They have shown some promise though and come into this one off the back of a 1-0 over Reims and boss Philippe Montanier will be expecting his side to cause problems.
