Lincoln City vs Grimsby Town Predictions

Any time two sides come together where there is little distance between the home grounds of both of the sides, there is more than the form book to be considered when evaluating who will come out on top. This weekend sees League Two leaders Lincoln City look to extend their lead at the top, but first they need to overcome their local rivals, Grimsby Town.

It has been quite the season for Lincoln City and although their run in the FA Cup came to an end in the third round following a 2-1 defeat to Premier League Everton a few weeks ago. Despite that defeat, the Imps have been impressive in the league and they come into this match with a three point lead and games in hand over their closest rivals for the title. A major part of their fortunes this season has come on the back of an attack which has  seen the side find the back of the net 47 times in the league so far, a tally which represents the second best return in the division.

Making the short trip to Sincil Bank is a Grimsby Town side who will be hoping to find some form following a few weeks of frustration. Despite being one of the form sides in the division over the busy festive period, the Mariners have now lost their last three matches in all competitions, and perhaps even more worrying than that is the fact that they have failed to find the back of the net in each of those three outings.

A derby match is often fiery as both sides do all they can to win bragging rights, a factor which leads us to believe that they will both go on the attack from the opening minute. When you also consider that a massive 85% of Lincoln’s home matches have finished with both teams scoring and Grimsby will be especially determined to break their recent barren spell in front of goal, we think that backing both teams to score is the way to go in this fixture.

The Imps are undoubtedly the favourites going into this match and should prove to have too much for a side which has lost almost half of their away matches this term.
