Ludogorets vs Vidi Predictions

Ludogorets have started the season in excellent form, but can they carry that in to this Champions League qualifier on Wednesday night? They host Hungarian side Vidi in the first leg of this second round qualifying tie, with both sides dreaming of a run to the group stage. However, that’s some way off at this stage, with another month of clashes before the final six sides to join the last 32 are decided. Can the visitors put up a fight here, or will this be as one-sided as the pre-match odds suggest?

Ludogorets do have decent European pedigree in recent years, and that seems to be a factor in them being priced up quite so short. They’ve kicked off their new domestic campaign aiming for an eighth straight title, but can they produce in Europe too? They made the Champions League group stage in 2014 and 2016, while they were in the knockout rounds of the Europa League in 2015, 2017 and 2018. Can they pull together another impressive European campaign, or are we set for an early exit for the Razgrad side?

They meet a Vidi side who don’t quite have the same record in Europe of late. They can’t match the stranglehold Ludogorets have on domestic football, so their eight appearances in this competition have been staggered over the last seven years. It’s been a pretty mixed bag for Vidi in that time, which isn’t good news ahead of a clash with a very in form outfit.

Ludogorets have won eight of their last nine ahead of their meeting with Vidi this week. They’ve just started their domestic campaign with three points, following up a comprehensive victory in the Champions League. They won 9-0 on aggregate against Crusaders in the first round of this season’s qualifiers, and that huge victory has only boosted confidence among the hosts.

While the visitors scraped past F91 Dudelange of Luxembourg last time out, their opponents ran up a 7-0 home victory. They’ve now won by more than one goal in four of their last five matches in this competition, and in four of their last five home European victories. Having racked up 14 goals in their last three home Champions League qualifiers, they are clearly a tough side to meet at this stage. That’s why we see the hosts winning comfortably, especially after winning by at least two goals in 20 of their 27 league wins last term. We’re backing Ludogorets with a -1 handicap, as we see them coming away with a win by a two goal margin at least.
