Marseille to Win

Reason for tip

Marseille have lost eight of their last ten home games in the Champions League, yet they welcome a Frankfurt side that look to have bitten off more than they can chew in Europe’s premier competition this season.

Marseille 2-0

Reason for tip

Frankfurt failed to score in their last two games, both of which ended in defeat. This assignment looks no easier than either of the last two against Sporting or Wolfsburg, so we fancy Marseille to win by a handy 2-0 margin.

Marseille vs Eintracht Frankfurt Predictions

  • Frankfurt have already lost back-to-back games twice this season.
  • Marseille averaged two scored goals per-game across their last five victories.
  • Frankfurt are without a goal in 186 minutes of play, excluding stoppage time.

The Olympians can put in a golden performance

While Marseille began their Champions League campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Spurs, they return to the Stade Velodrome in high spirits after bouncing back to winning ways in league action over the weekend.

Frankfurt are the only Champions League debutants in this year’s edition and that showed in a 3-0 defeat to Sporting Lisbon in the opening game. That has now cemented back-to-back defeats to nil, a pair of games which caused boss Oliver Glasner to call his side out for being ponderous and slow!

Those are words you wouldn’t want associated with your team, so the Eagles will need a significant bounce back to form if they are to repeat any of last season’s Europa League heroics here in Marseille.

Last season is taking a toll

After so many games played in their glorious campaign last year, Frankfurt seem to be paying the price with their form now. After failing to win four of their last six European trips to face French opponents, we predict that their mini-crisis of confidence will worsen here with another defeat.

As for the correct score, we’re sticking with a 2-0 home win in a result which would extend Frankfurt’s rotten scoreless run and condemn them to end the round bottom of the group!
