Newcastle vs Norwich Predictions

  • Newcastle have won seven of their last nine home league clashes with Norwich
  • Norwich have lost four of six away trips, scoring in only one of those
  • The hosts have played nine of the top 11 in their opening 13 games
  • Norwich have lost four times against bottom-half teams this season

Opportunity for Toon

Newcastle were beaten 2-0 at Arsenal on Saturday, meaning they’ve now gone 13 games without a win in the Premier League this term. That was a difficult first assignment for Eddie Howe, his debut at St James’ Park looks more straightforward.

While the Magpies are winless so far, they meet a Norwich side who are just three points ahead of them. This is also the first time they’ve started a gameweek bottom since October 2015, when they preceded to win 6-2 against Norwich. That victory is part of a good run for them against the Canaries.

Norwich’s Tyneside troubles

Newcastle are unbeaten in their last nine home league games against Norwich (W7 D2). They should be able to continue that good run, especially with their much-improved displays of late. Across their last five games, the Magpies have only lost to Chelsea and Arsenal.

Norwich have made an unbeaten start under Dean Smith, but it’s hard to look past the fact they’ve lost eight of their 13 matches this term. They’ve also been beaten in four of their six away trips, scoring in just one of those.

First win for Magpies

Newcastle may be on a poor run, but there’s talent in this side. Only three teams in Premier League history have failed to win in their opening 14 games of a league season. This game looks to have fallen perfectly for the Magpies to end their wait for a victory.

With Howe on board, a midweek night under the lights at St James’ should prove to be enough for the Magpies. Norwich are poor travellers, while the hosts have been hit by a tough start. They’ve played nine of their opening 13 against sides in the top 11, but they haven’t lost any of the other four.

We’re backing Newcastle to end their winless run and they should punish a Norwich side who already have four defeats against bottom-half sides this season. Back the hosts to claim a win, while a 1-0 correct score prediction is my pick given Norwich’s scoring rate on the road.
